Understanding key terms
Bullying
Bullying is repeated and unreasonable behaviour that creates a risk to a person’s health, safety or wellbeing. This can include intimidating, humiliating, threatening or offensive behaviour.
While a single incident may not always be bullying, it should still be reported—particularly if it may escalate.
Discrimination
Discrimination occurs when someone is treated unfairly because of a personal characteristic such as age, disability, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy or other protected attributes.
Harassment
Harassment is unwelcome behaviour—verbal, physical or written—that is offensive, intimidating or humiliating. This includes conduct in online learning environments and digital communications.
Violence
Violence includes physical acts, threats of physical harm, or behaviour intended to cause fear or damage property. Any immediate danger should be reported to emergency services.
How to report a concern
If you experience or witness discrimination, bullying, harassment or violence, you are encouraged to report it.
You can do this by:
-
speaking with your trainer or assessor
-
contacting a Strata Education staff member or student support officer
-
submitting a report in writing (including by email)
-
using anonymous reporting options, where available
What happens after you report
Your report will be acknowledged as soon as possible. If there is an immediate safety risk, steps will be taken straight away to protect those involved. Reports are handled sensitively and confidentially. You will be advised of the next steps and available support.
Investigation, outcomes and support
Where appropriate, Strata Education will investigate the matter in a fair and impartial way. This may involve gathering information, speaking with relevant parties, and documenting findings.
Support is available to both the person raising the concern and the person responding to it. Depending on the outcome, actions may include:
-
education or guidance
-
behavioural agreements
-
mediation
-
formal warnings
-
referral to external support services or authorities, where required
Protection from victimisation
You will not be disadvantaged or treated unfairly for raising a concern or making a complaint in good faith. Victimisation is not tolerated and will be treated as a serious breach of expectations.
Continuous improvement
Strata Education regularly reviews its policies and practices to ensure a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment for all students.
